Attorney General Todd Rokita has encouraged residents of Indiana to visit IndianaUnclaimed.gov or text CLAIM to 46220 as part of National Unclaimed Property Day. This initiative aims to help individuals discover unclaimed assets that belong to them.
“What’s yours is yours, and the government should not be holding onto it,” Attorney General Rokita stated. “Our office returned a record-breaking $81 million to hardworking Hoosiers in 2023, and hundreds of millions is just waiting to be claimed.”
Indiana stands out as the only state where the attorney general manages unclaimed property. These assets can include unclaimed wages, money orders, contents from safety deposit boxes, savings accounts, refunds, and overpayments such as credit card balances or cell phone bills.
Individuals and businesses have up to 25 years to claim their assets once they are reported to the Unclaimed Property Division. The division also handles tangible items from dormant safe deposit boxes, which may be sold through auctions after three years.
To find out if you have any unclaimed property, visit IndianaUnclaimed.gov or text CLAIM to 46220. For further assistance, contact the Unclaimed Property Division at 1-866-462-5246 or [email protected].
