Attorney General Merrick B. Garland has announced the appointment of Stephanie M. Hinds as the new Director of the Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys (EOUSA). In his announcement, Garland praised Hinds, stating, "Stephanie is a superb leader with decades of experience at the Justice Department who will be an outstanding advocate for all 94 of our U.S. Attorneys’ Offices across the country." He highlighted her extensive career and dedication to the department.
Hinds brings a wealth of experience from her tenure at the Justice Department since joining 29 years ago. Before this new role, she served as Associate Deputy Attorney General starting in May 2023 and held positions such as Interim and Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California from March 2021 to March 2023. Her career at NDCA began in 1995, where she worked in various capacities including First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of the Asset Forfeiture Section.
Norman Wong, who was acting as EOUSA's Director since July 1, 2023, will now return to his previous position as Principal Deputy Director. Garland expressed his appreciation for Wong's service by saying, “Norm Wong has been an excellent steward of EOUSA since becoming Acting Director of the Office in July 2023.”
