Prosecutors from the office of Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill have secured a 36-count grand jury indictment against Christina Sam, an alderman in Evangeline Parish. The indictment, issued on April 10, pertains to alleged voter fraud activities between May and November 2022 during the general election.
The charges against Sam include eighteen counts under La. R.S. 18:1461.2 for election offenses affecting registration and election fraud or forgery, as well as eighteen counts under La. R.S. 14:133 for filing or maintaining false public records.
According to allegations, Sam persuaded individuals to change their residential addresses to her district solely for voting purposes in the November race, without any intention of residing there permanently as required by law.
Sam is scheduled to be arraigned in the coming weeks.
