Katrina LaFoe, a 44-year-old resident of Barton, Vermont, has been arraigned in Orleans County on three counts of felony Medicaid fraud. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Residential Abuse Unit (MFRAU) and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). The investigation revealed that LaFoe allegedly billed Medicaid for services not provided by her, defrauding Vermont Medicaid of over $18,000.

During her arraignment at the Vermont Superior Court, Orleans Criminal Division, LaFoe pleaded not guilty. Judge Benjamin Battles set conditions for her release, requiring her to maintain contact with the court and legal counsel and attend all future proceedings.

The Attorney General’s Office reminds the public that individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The MFRAU receives 75 percent of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a grant totaling $1,332,724 for Federal fiscal year FY 2025. The State of Vermont funds the remaining 25 percent, amounting to $444,241 for FY 2025.

Anyone suspecting abuse of the Vermont Medicaid program is encouraged to contact Vermont Adult Protective Services or report to MFRAU through their website.
