Attorney General Josh Stein has expressed gratitude to the North Carolina General Assembly following the unanimous passage of the Disaster Recovery Act of 2024, also known as HB149. The legislation aims to provide initial funding for relief and recovery efforts in western North Carolina.
In a statement released today, Stein acknowledged the swift action taken by the assembly: “I thank the General Assembly for moving quickly to draft and pass this bill and allocate initial funds for western North Carolina relief and recovery." He emphasized that recovery efforts will require sustained commitment over an extended period. "As I’ve traveled western North Carolina and visited with affected people, it has been abundantly clear that the work to help our fellow North Carolinians is going to take weeks, months – and in some cases, even years," he said.
Stein highlighted the importance of continued bipartisan cooperation in addressing the needs of those impacted by Hurricane Helene. "We’re going to need to keep working together on a bipartisan basis to help our neighbors recover from this disaster,” he stated.
