California DOJ investigates officer-involved shooting in Bakersfield

California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Bakersfield. The incident, which occurred on October 2, 2024, at around 1:30 a.m., resulted in the death of one individual.

The investigation is being carried out under Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates independent reviews of such incidents. The DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team began its inquiry after being notified by local authorities. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be submitted to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for further review.
