Attorney General Kris Mayes announced that Eduardo Cruz has been sentenced to five years in prison, followed by three years of probation, for dealing fentanyl pills and methamphetamine. The sentencing took place in Maricopa County Superior Court.
"My office is committed to protecting Arizona communities from the dangers of drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine,” stated Attorney General Mayes. “We will keep working to get these drugs off our streets and hold those who distribute them accountable under the law."
Cruz was involved in drug sales earlier this year in the Phoenix area. On February 14, 2024, he sold around 10,000 fentanyl pills weighing 2.4 pounds. Later, on March 27, he had 7.05 pounds of methamphetamine for sale. Following an investigation by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Cruz was arrested and charged.
He pled guilty to several charges: Conspiracy to Sell a Narcotic Drug (a class 2 felony), Attempt to Possess Dangerous Drug for Sale (a class 3 felony), and Illegally Conducting an Enterprise (a class 3 felony).
On September 30, Cruz received concurrent sentences for his felonies along with financial penalties including $4,500 to the State Anti-Racketeering Revolving Fund and $10,000 in investigation costs to the Department of Public Safety. He must also forfeit any guns involved in his case.
Assistant Attorney General Sabrina Lochner prosecuted this case.
