Attorney General Tim Griffin announced the arrest of former El Dorado Mayor Veronica Creer on a theft charge. Creer is accused of closing the bank account of El Dorado Crime Stoppers, a nonprofit where she was once a board member, and withdrawing $23,544 in October 2023. The funds were redirected to another nonprofit, Parents United Against Youth Violence, without approval from other board members.
"Ms. Creer had not been active as a member of El Dorado Crime Stoppers’ board since 2016, though she was still listed as a signatory on the organization’s bank account," Griffin stated. "Her decision to withdraw the money and direct it to a different organization was not approved by anyone but her."
The El Dorado Police Department informed Jeff Rogers, Prosecuting Attorney for the 13th Judicial District, who then requested an investigation by Griffin's Public Integrity Unit. Special agents arrested Creer in Union County where she will face trial. The case will be handled by the Special Prosecutions Division.
"I appreciate the work done on this case by my office and the El Dorado Police Department, and the cooperation of Prosecuting Attorney Rogers," Griffin added. "We are all equal under the law, and I will continue to enforce the law."
Tim Griffin became Arkansas's 57th Attorney General in January 2023 after serving as Lieutenant Governor from 2015-2023. His career includes roles such as U.S. Army Reserve JAG Corps officer and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
