Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird are leading a 19-state effort to address concerns over potential fraudulent and illegal activities in political fundraising. The initiative targets ActBlue, a major fundraising platform, seeking information on its safeguards against improper donation practices.

The primary concern is "smurfing," a money laundering technique where large donations are split into smaller amounts to bypass contribution limits. "Hoosiers deserve to know that the powerful interests funding political campaigns are operating ethically and legally," said Attorney General Rokita. "They deserve the assurance that elections are being conducted with fairness and integrity rather than rigged in ways that dilute and undermine their own individual votes."

Reports have surfaced suggesting that some individuals listed in Federal Election Commission filings as donors through ActBlue may not have actually made those contributions. ActBlue has processed billions of dollars in campaign contributions this election cycle.

The attorneys general emphasize the need for transparency and adherence to campaign finance laws to maintain public confidence in elections. The full letter addressed to ActBlue officials is attached.
