Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the latest quarterly allocation of naloxone as part of Arizona's ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis. This initiative follows Arizona's settlement with Teva Manufacturing to address the harms caused by the opioid epidemic.
"Every unit of naloxone we distribute can potentially save a life, which underscores the importance of these efforts across our state," said Attorney General Kris Mayes. "I am committed to ensuring that all Arizona communities have the resources they need to prevent opioid-related overdose deaths."
The third quarter purchase order, approved by Attorney General Mayes and submitted to Teva earlier this month, involves distributing 7,000 units of naloxone, each containing two doses of nasal naloxone, to community partners across Arizona. Deliveries are expected from late September through November.
The naloxone units will be distributed as follows:
- AZ HIDTA c/o Arizona Poison Control Center – 2,500 units
- Sonoran Prevention Works – 800 units
- Apache County Health Services Department – 500 units
- Coconino County Health Department – 2,500 units
- Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition – 700 units
As part of the Teva Settlement Agreement, Arizona opted to receive from Teva Pharmaceuticals 27,700 units of naloxone per year for up to ten years. To date in 2024, Teva has shipped a total of 16,500 units of naloxone to Arizona.
