The law clerk will work under the supervision of an Assistant State’s Attorney and will be responsible for various duties such as conducting legal research, preparing research memos, drafting motions and orders, and assisting in the courtroom during trials.
Candidates must be law school students from accredited institutions working toward a juris doctorate degree, with preference given to second-year students (2Ls). They must also be eligible for practice under the rules for limited practice of law by law students. A post-offer criminal background check will be required.
Primary job duties include assisting with the preparation of legal documents such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and orders; appearing in court as needed; conducting legal research; supporting criminal prosecutions including jury trials and appeals; assisting attorneys with legal work; performing other assigned duties; communicating clearly both orally and in writing; having knowledge of appropriate legal terminology; understanding the purpose and content of court documents; being proficient with word processing software; and possessing excellent typing skills.
