Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach announced today that a federal judge has blocked a Biden Administration initiative aimed at reducing the prevalence of gas-powered cars. The decision was made in response to a challenge brought by a 21-state coalition in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky against a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) rule.
"President Biden's administration is constantly exceeding its authority. Once again, Republican attorneys general have stepped in to prevail over the Biden bureaucracy," Kobach stated.
The FHWA rule would have mandated states to set targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from on-road sources. Critics argued that such regulations could hinder economic development and job creation projects.
Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman led the coalition, which included attorneys general from Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia and Wyoming.
