On April 1, the Office of Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) hosted a delegation of 11 prosecutors, auditors, and journalists as part of the International Visitor Leadership Program titled “Combatting Government Corruption.” The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and Global Ties KC.
The delegation included representatives from Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovak Republic, and Slovenia. The group participated in an overview of OMIG's operations presented by Inspector General Steven Anderson. This session included discussions on investigation and audit approaches, exploring similarities and differences in respective areas while addressing common challenges.
The program aims to examine policies and programs at various levels of government to combat corruption and abuse of power. It delves into best practices for detecting and prosecuting corrupt officials, emphasizes the importance of partnerships and information sharing in combating corruption, and seeks to understand the role of media and civil society in monitoring and reporting public corruption.
