The deadline for applications for a part-time justice court judge position serving Providence, Utah has been extended. This vacancy follows the resignation of Judge Matthew Funk in January.
To qualify for the justice court judgeship in Cache County, candidates must meet several criteria: they must be at least 25 years old, a U.S. citizen, and have been a Utah resident for at least three years. Additionally, they need to hold a degree from a law school that qualifies them to apply for admission to the bar in any state within the United States. Candidates must also reside in Cache County, an adjacent county, or the judicial district where the justice court is located either upon appointment or shortly thereafter.

According to Utah law, the Judicial Nominating Commission is required to submit three to five nominees to Providence Mayor Kathleen Alder within 45 days of its first meeting. Mayor Alder then has 30 days to select a finalist whose appointment must be ratified by the Providence City Council and certified by the Utah Judicial Council.
