Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Office secured a conviction in East Carroll Parish on September 13 for a man charged with attempted second-degree murder.

Amin Virani was hired as a hitman in 2015 by his co-defendant Rachel Meadows to kill her ex-husband in the town of Lake Providence. The victim was shot multiple times but managed to escape with his life.

Rachel Meadows pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder in November 2021 and received a 15-year sentence from the judge in her case.

Virani was convicted by a unanimous jury in under 30 minutes for his role in the crime. He will be sentenced at a future date.

“I’d like to thank State Police and the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s for their hard work that allowed for this conviction to even be possible. We will continue to bring justice to victims, no matter how long the judicial process takes,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.
