Ward County seeks assistant state’s attorney; offers competitive salary

The Ward County Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant State’s Attorney in the Ward County State’s Attorney’s office.

The starting pay range for this position is $104,723.62 to $124,034.19 annually, depending on experience. The recruitment is open to both internal and external candidates.

Candidates must have completed a Juris Doctorate Degree and possess a North Dakota license to practice law. Preferred applicants will have over six years of litigation experience in civil and criminal cases, although candidates with lesser applicable experience may be considered for an underfill position.

The Assistant State’s Attorney will assist in providing legal representation for Ward County, involving the prosecution of criminal cases and handling civil matters related to the county and its entities. Key responsibilities include preparing legal documents, trying felony, misdemeanor, infraction criminal jury and bench trials, as well as non-criminal traffic violations. The role also involves representing the county in child-support actions and other community involvements.

Additional duties encompass preparing briefs and arguing appeals to the North Dakota Supreme Court, drafting motions and pleadings for post-conviction relief matters, preparing search warrants for law enforcement agencies, managing civil asset forfeitures on seized property, and offering legal assistance to various government agencies.
