Problem-solving courts provide an alternative route through the criminal justice system for nonviolent drug-related offenders. These courts use a specialized team process within the existing court structure to reduce recidivism and substance use among individuals with substance use disorders. The goal is to protect public safety and increase the likelihood of successful rehabilitation by employing validated risk and need assessments, early and individualized behavioral health treatment, frequent and random chemical testing, incentives, sanctions, and other rehabilitative services.

For additional information or interviews, interested parties can contact Dean Rohwer, Problem-Solving Court Coordinator (Adult Drug Courts) at 402-441-1658 or Jordan Boies, Problem-Solving Coordinator (DUI Courts) at 402-441-7777. Court media credentials are preferred for coverage of the event.

The judicial power in Nebraska is distributed among various courts including the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, district courts, county courts, separate juvenile courts in Douglas, Lancaster, and Sarpy Counties, as well as a statewide Workers’ Compensation Court. All state courts operate under the administrative direction of the Supreme Court.
