Washington County seeks applicants for full-time justice court judge

Applications are now being accepted for a full-time justice court judge position in Washington County, Utah. This role will replace Judge Doug Whitlock, who is set to retire in January.

To qualify for the judgeship, candidates must be at least 25 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a Utah resident for at least three years. Additionally, they must hold a degree from a law school that qualifies them to apply for admission to any state bar in the United States. Applicants must also reside in Washington County, an adjacent county, or within the judicial district of the justice court either upon appointment or within a reasonable time thereafter.

Utah law mandates that the Judicial Nominating Commission submit three to five nominees to the Washington County Commission within 45 days of its first meeting. The County Commission then has 30 days to select a finalist whose selection must be certified by the Utah Judicial Council.
