The Office of the North Dakota Attorney General has announced an opening for the position of Deputy Solicitor General. The role, located in Bismarck, ND, is full-time and comes with a state benefit package. Applications are being accepted until August 19, 2024.
Philip Axt, Solicitor General, will supervise the selection process. The Deputy Solicitor General will focus on constitutional issues, appellate advocacy, and litigation against the Federal Government. Responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting briefs and motions, staying informed on national legal developments, assisting in developing litigation strategies, advocating in court, managing counsel retained by the State, and other duties as assigned.
Candidates must be licensed to practice law in North Dakota or another state with plans to seek admission to the North Dakota bar within a year. High academic or professional achievement is required along with excellent research and communication skills. Candidates should also demonstrate a willingness to commit significant time and energy to the role while maintaining high ethical standards and confidentiality.
Preference will be given to those with experience in appellate brief writing and oral argument or managing complex litigation.
