Maine Supreme Judicial Court seeks public comment on judicial conduct code amendment

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court is seeking public input on a proposed amendment to the Maine Code of Judicial Conduct. The amendment aims to clarify that the Code applies to lawyers seeking judicial appointments from the moment they are nominated.

Public comments must be submitted to the Executive Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024. Submissions can be made in writing, mailed to the address provided below, or sent via email to lawcourt.clerk@courts.maine.gov. Email attachments should be in native (text-based and not scanned) portable document format (.pdf). The Clerk’s Office will confirm receipt of emails through a reply.

All submissions must include (1) the name and mailing address of the individual submitting comments and (2) the name, mailing address, and primary telephone number of any organization represented. Individuals do not need to be attorneys to submit comments either personally or on behalf of an organization.

Submitted comments are public records and may be published on the Court’s website.
