Attorney General Raúl Labrador has joined a coalition of 22 state attorneys general in urging Congressional leaders to support and pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This legislation aims to strengthen the electoral process by ensuring that only eligible citizens can vote.

“Our entire nation has watched the Biden Administration turn a blind eye to illegal immigration and the exploitation, destruction, and misery it has caused in so many communities,” stated Attorney General Labrador. “This Administration has literally allowed the population equivalent of 13 congressional districts’ worth of illegal immigrants into our country in the last four years. We are equally shocked to see some states and jurisdictions offer up voting rights to those who have come to our country in defiance of our laws.”

The SAVE Act seeks to protect elections from ineligible participants by requiring proof of citizenship when registering to vote. It also aims to assist states in identifying and removing illegal immigrants from their voter registration rolls.

“President Biden’s terrible immigration policies have enabled the worst border crisis in American history,” reads a statement from the coalition's letter. “A congressional report recently concluded that the Biden Administration released 5.3 million illegal immigrants into the United States through ‘parole’ programs.” The letter further claims that this situation now threatens the security of America's elections.

The SAVE Act has received broad support among Americans concerned about election integrity. The United States House of Representatives passed the bill last week, but it awaits action from the United States Senate.
