Ellen Murphy to Speak at PLI Program on Ethical Issues Associated with Internal Investigations on July 17, 2024

Ellen Murphy, a partner in Seyfarth’s White Collar Defense & Investigations practice, will serve as a panelist for a session at PLI’s Storming the Gatekeepers: When Compliance Officers and In-House Lawyers Are at Risk 2024 program on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Ellen will be a panelist for a session titled, “Ethical Issues Associated with Internal Investigations” at 3:00 p.m. Eastern.

The panel will discuss common conflicts of interest that might arise for gatekeepers including challenges to the attorney-client privilege. After completing this session, participants will be able to:

Consider general privilege issues in in an internal investigation—what are the challenges once the investigation becomes the source of an enforcement action

Know gatekeepers’ ethical obligations

Handle internal investigations that are not as thorough as you feel they should be

Weigh the possibility of gatekeepers as whistleblowers

Understand how to appropriately handle whistleblower complaints
