California DOJ investigates LAPD officer-involved shooting under AB 1506

On July 15, 2024, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating and will independently review an officer-involved shooting (OIS) that occurred on July 13, 2024, in Los Angeles. The incident resulted in the death of one individual and took place around 10:24 p.m., involving the Los Angeles Police Department.

Once informed of the incident, DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team initiated an investigation as mandated by Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506). Upon completion, the investigation will be handed over to DOJ's Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.
