ORLANDO, Fla. (Legal Newsilne) - Several companies are being blamed for the shooting and killing of a 25-year-old man in a Florida strip mall.
Guerdy Severe, as the personal representative of the estate of Guerson A. Merisier, filed a lawsuit May 17 in Orange County Circuit Court against Westside Plaza Associates L.P., EH Westside Plaza G.P., Inc., Hudson Equities Management Corp., and Polo Chicken Restaurant & Catherine, LLC.
The plaintiff seeks damages exceeding $50,000 for the wrongful death of Guerson A. Merisier, who was shot and killed by an unknown assailant while waiting to enter Polo Chicken Restaurant on October 3, 2022.
Media reports say he was shot during a large fight in the parking lot.
The complaint alleges negligence on the part of all defendants for failing to provide adequate security measures despite being aware of prior criminal activities in the area.
Specific allegations include failure to hire trained security guards, inadequate lighting and insufficient security protocols. The plaintiff is seeking compensation for loss of earnings, funeral expenses, mental pain and suffering for Merisier's survivors, and other related damages.
