LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) - Class action lawyers have targeted La-Z-Boy with a false pricing case, claiming discounts for home decor products aren't as big as the company claims.
A class action lawsuit was filed by Jeffrey Jacobs May 29 in Los Angeles federal court against La-Z-Boy Incorporated, alleging deceptive pricing practices related to its Joybird furniture products.
The complaint accuses La-Z-Boy of misleading consumers through false reference and discount pricing on joybird.com and in Joybird retail showrooms. Jacobs claims that the company advertises inflated "original" prices alongside lower "sale" prices to create a false impression of savings, thereby inducing customers to overpay for their purchases.
The lawsuit alleges violations of California's Unfair Competition Law, False Advertising Law, Consumers Legal Remedies Act, and the Federal Trade Commission Act.
Jacobs seeks monetary damages, restitution, and injunctive relief to halt these alleged deceptive practices.
Jacobs' legal team conducted an investigation tracking Joybird product prices from February 2024 onwards, revealing that items were perpetually discounted and rarely sold at their purported original prices, the suit says. The plaintiff asserts that this practice harms all consumers by inflating market prices beyond what they would otherwise command.
