The Office of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has concluded the prosecution of individuals involved in the November 2022 murder of Zaria McKeever. The final two defendants, Eriana Haynes and Tavion James, were sentenced today following their guilty pleas to aiding an offender after the fact.
Eriana Haynes received a 41-month prison sentence, while Tavion James was sentenced to 364 days in jail with a stayed sentence of 42 months over the next five years. These sentences follow earlier guilty pleas secured on April 1, 2024.
Previously, Erick Haynes was sentenced to life in prison on April 12, 2024, after pleading guilty to first-degree felony murder. He will be eligible for release after 30 years. On May 8, 2024, Foday Kevin Kamara received a sentence of 130 months' confinement following his plea of guilty to second-degree intentional murder.
Zaria McKeever, aged 23, was murdered on November 8, 2022, in her Brooklyn Park home. Her former partner and father of her child, Erick Haynes, orchestrated the crime by sending two juveniles armed with guns into her apartment with the intent to kill McKeever's new boyfriend. During the incident, the juveniles shot Ms. McKeever five times, including at point-blank range to her head. They then fled in a vehicle driven by Mr. Haynes and were subsequently aided by Eriana Haynes and Tavion James.
