Second Judicial District announces district court vacancy

The Second Judicial District Nominating Commission has announced a vacancy for the position of district judge in Denver County, following the death of Hon. Christine Antoun on May 25, 2024. The commission will convene on June 21, 2024, at the Denver City and County building to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor.

To be eligible for this position, applicants must be qualified electors of the Second Judicial District at the time of investiture and must have been admitted to practice law in Colorado for at least five years. The annual salary for this role is $193,008. Initially, a district judge serves a provisional term of two years; if retained by voters thereafter, the term extends to six years.

They are also available online at http://www.courts.state.co.us/Careers/Judge.cfm. Completed applications must be emailed no later than 4:00 p.m. on June 12, 2024; late submissions will not be considered.

Individuals wishing to suggest candidates may do so by submitting letters to any member of the nominating commission with a copy sent to Justice Gabriel by 4:00 p.m. on June 5, 2024.

The members of the nominating commission are Kiel Brunner, Michael Carrigan, Tyrone Glover, Maria Garcia Berry, L. Roger Hutson, Megan Garnett, and Josett Valdez.

Instructions for completing and submitting applications emphasize thoroughness and adherence to format requirements. Applications should include three to five reference letters submitted as part of a single PDF file or directly by email if necessary.
