The Washington State Court of Appeals, Division I, will convene at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon on May 29, 2024. A panel of appellate judges will hear oral arguments beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Tarro Theater on the college's Mount Vernon campus.

The proceedings are open to the public and will include a Q&A session following the oral arguments to provide attendees with insights into the role and operations of the Court of Appeals. The hearings will also be livestreamed and recorded by TVW.

“We are excited to return to the Skagit Valley after our successful traveling court experience at SVC last spring,” said Division I Acting Chief Judge Cecily C. Hazelrigg. “Division I is grateful for opportunities to partner with educational institutions like Skagit Valley College in the shared goal of promoting both civics education and transparency in government. It is truly a delight to get into our communities and speak with neighbors about the work that we do.”

Judge Hazelrigg (Skagit, Whatcom, San Juan, and Island Counties), Judge Linda W.Y. Coburn (Snohomish County), and Judge Ian S. Birk (King County) will preside over three cases:

- Robinett Investment Co., LLC v. WA Department of Transportation

- Thomas E. Peak v. WA Department of Transportation

- VS Developing, LLC v. BRMK Priest Point, LLC

Each argument is scheduled to last approximately 20 minutes. Legal briefs and other filings related to these cases can be accessed via the Appellate Courts Public Document Portal.

Division I of the Court of Appeals is based in Seattle and serves King, Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, San Juan, and Island counties.
