LITTLE ROCK – Attorney General Tim Griffin announced today that he has sent cease and desist letters to New York-based Choices Women’s Medical Center, Inc., and Aid Access of the Netherlands. The letters pertain to potential violations of the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (ADTPA) concerning abortion pill marketing and sales.

“Abortions are prohibited in Arkansas except under very limited circumstances. As such, abortion pills may not be legally shipped to Arkansans or brought into the State for use by Arkansans,” Griffin stated. “My office has verified that both Choices Women’s Medical Center, Inc., and Aid Access are advertising the availability of abortion-inducing pills to Arkansans in contravention of our laws.”

Griffin emphasized that these companies must "cease and desist advertising relating to the performance of abortion services in Arkansas immediately or face the possibility of lawsuits from my office." He added, "As Attorney General, I will continue fighting to enforce the laws of our state."

The Attorney General's office has the authority to sue violators of the ADTPA and seek civil penalties amounting to $10,000 per violation. Both companies have been given 14 days to notify Griffin in writing about their compliance measures.

Tim Griffin was sworn in as the 57th Attorney General of Arkansas on January 10, 2023. His previous roles include serving as Lieutenant Governor from 2015-2023 and representing Arkansas’s Second Congressional District from 2011-2015. Griffin has also served more than 27 years in the U.S. Army Reserve Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps and currently holds the rank of colonel.

Griffin's military service includes a deployment with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Mosul, Iraq, and his current role as Commander of the 2d Legal Operations Detachment in New Orleans, Louisiana. His legal career includes positions such as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas and Special Assistant to President George W. Bush.

Griffin is a graduate of Magnolia High School, Hendrix College, Tulane Law School, and attended graduate school at Oxford University. He resides in Little Rock with his wife Elizabeth and their three children.
