Charles A. Stock has been recognized with the inaugural District of North Dakota Criminal Justice Act Distinguished Panel Attorney Award. The award was established this year by the District’s Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Panel Committee to annually honor one outstanding CJA Panel attorney for their dedication and service to the CJA Panel, indigent defendants, and the District of North Dakota.

The award is centered on preserving the rights of the accused, providing quality representation to indigent defendants, and serving as a resource to other CJA Panel attorneys in the District. Mr. Stock was chosen for this distinction due to his years of service on the CJA Panel, his willingness to take on challenging cases including those where he stepped in after a previous attorney-client relationship had deteriorated, and his consistent provision of high-quality representation to indigent defendants. Additionally, Mr. Stock's informal mentoring of other panel members through sharing his experiences and knowledge was also highlighted by the Committee.

Magistrate Judge Alice R. Senechal presented the award to Mr. Stock on behalf of the CJA Committee at the Indigent Defense Conference in Fargo on May 17, 2024.
