The Maine Supreme Judicial Court is seeking public feedback on a proposed amendment to Rule 9(c)(2) of the Maine Bar Admission Rules. The proposed amendment aims to formalize the procedures of the Board of Bar Examiners for interviewing an applicant as part of an investigation into the applicant's character and fitness.

The court has made the proposed amendment available via links, and any comments must be filed with the Clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024. Comments can be submitted in writing, mailed to the provided address, or sent via email to lawcourt.clerk@courts.maine.gov. If comments are attached to an email, they must be in a native (text-based and not scanned) portable document format (.pdf). The Clerk's Office will acknowledge receipt of the email through a reply.

All comments must include the name and mailing address of the individual submitting them, as well as the name, mailing address, and primary telephone number of any organization on whose behalf they are being submitted. It is not necessary for an individual to be an attorney to submit comments individually or on behalf of an organization.

The court has clarified that all comments are considered public documents and may be posted on its website.

Matthew Pollack, Executive Clerk of Maine Supreme Judicial Court, announced this invitation for comments on May 17, 2024.
