Attorney General Merrick B. Garland joined international and national partners at the Five Eyes Law Enforcement Group (FELEG) Annual Principals Meeting this week. The meeting focused on discussions surrounding technology, innovation, encryption, and their impacts on global safety.
ICE Acting Director Lechleitner highlighted the importance of FELEG partnerships in enhancing law enforcement investigations on a global scale and increasing cooperation between partner nations. He stated, “FELEG partnerships enhance law enforcement investigations on the national and international level, particularly related to cyber-enabled crime, where complex tactics and cyber techniques empower transnational criminal organizations and threaten global security.”
FBI Executive Assistant Director Timothy Langan emphasized the significance of collaboration, stating, “The FBI understands that we are all better positioned to execute our mission when the international law enforcement community is bonded together through close collaboration and coordination.”
DEA Administrator Anne Milgram addressed the pressing issue of global drug trafficking, pointing out the challenges posed by Mexican cartels utilizing technology to carry out their operations. She stated, “Two Mexican cartels, the Sinaloa and Jalisco cartels, are not only causing devastating harm to Americans, but they are operating worldwide on almost every continent.”
Various other speakers at the meeting stressed the importance of trusted partnerships, innovative technological solutions, and collective efforts in combating organized crime and ensuring public safety.
