Attorney General Jason Miyares of Virginia has taken a firm stance on the issue of missing migrant children, calling on the Biden administration to address the crisis promptly. In a letter addressed to Health and Human Services Secretary Becerra, Attorney General Miyares expressed his concerns regarding the welfare and safety of unaccompanied minors.
"The federal government has lost track of 85,000 migrant children. This is unacceptable. Local law enforcement cannot protect and ensure the well-being of children they don’t know exist," stated Attorney General Miyares.
The Attorney General's letter to President Biden and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on February 29th highlighted the need for the Office of Refugee Resettlement to revise its policies to notify local governments when migrant children are placed in their jurisdictions. However, this call was initially ignored, prompting Attorney General Miyares to demand increased coordination between federal, state, and local authorities to tackle this pressing issue.
"No child should be dropped off at a strange home without proper vetting and safeguards to ensure their safety. President Biden is unable to protect American citizens and the unaccompanied minors he welcomes in with his open border policies," Miyares emphasized in his letter.
The Attorney General's letter outlines specific actions that need to be taken to address the missing migrant children crisis, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between different levels of government.
