Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has opened an investigation into Spirit AeroSystems Holdings, Inc., after reoccurring issues with certain airplane parts provided to Boeing. Spirit AeroSystems, described as "one of the world’s largest manufacturers of aerostructures for commercial airplanes," produces the fuselages for Boeing’s 737 jets. According to reports, manufacturing defects in these parts have led to concerning or dangerous incidents, some of which have occurred during flights.

The Texas Business Organizations Code empowers the Office of the Attorney General to probe into the company’s organization, conduct, and management by demanding access to relevant documents. Spirit AeroSystems has been directed to provide various documents pertaining to manufacturing defects in their products. Additionally, the company is required to disclose documents related to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”) commitments, and assess whether these commitments are unlawful or affecting the company’s manufacturing processes negatively.

Attorney General Ken Paxton expressed his concern over the potential risks associated with certain airplane models, stating, “The potential risks associated with certain airplane models are deeply concerning and potentially life-threatening to Texans.” Paxton emphasized his commitment to holding companies accountable for maintaining the necessary standards mandated by the law and ensuring that manufacturers prioritize passenger safety.

The investigation initiated by Attorney General Paxton aims to address the safety and quality concerns surrounding Spirit AeroSystems' airplane parts supplied to Boeing. The actions taken by the Texas Attorney General underscore the importance of upholding safety standards and accountability in the aviation industry.
