ORLANDO, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - The family of a Jones High student has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Florida court against Orange County Public Schools for failing to prevent his murder.
Orange County Public Schools and Jones High School are facing a lawsuit filed March 14 in Orange County Circuit Court by George Brown.
The suit was filed individually and on behalf of his deceased son, Gamaine Brown.
The complaint alleges that on November 12, 2022, Gamaine Brown attended a football game at Jones High School where a physical altercation occurred. Despite not being involved in the incident, Gamaine was fatally shot when leaving the game.
It is claimed that those involved in the earlier altercation were escorted out of the game but not off the premises and subsequently began shooting at people exiting the game.
The lawsuit argues that there was inadequate security at the event with only two police officers present and no independent school security guards. It also alleges negligence on part of the school for failing to ensure violent individuals were removed from school property and could not return.
Gamaine was 19 years old when he was killed. Police originally arrested a 17-year-old, but charges were dropped a year ago.
