CHICAGO (Legal Newsline) - A comparison of saturated fat reveals Eggland's Best is lying about the quality of its products, a class action lawsuit says.
Eggland's Best, a leading egg producer in the United States, is facing a class action lawsuit filed March 12 in Chicago federal court by Richard Vilchis.
The lawsuit accuses Eggland's Best of false and deceptive marketing regarding their shell egg products. The products are labeled as containing "25% Less Saturated Fat than Regular Eggs," a claim which the plaintiff alleges is untrue.
The complaint asserts that laboratory testing has revealed that Eggland’s Best’s eggs contain higher levels of saturated fat than non-Eggland’s Best-branded “Regular Eggs.” This discrepancy between the product's label and its actual nutritional content is seen as misleading to consumers who rely on such information when making purchasing decisions.
Eggland's Best, headquartered in Pennsylvania, is reported to be the second-largest egg producer in the U.S., selling more than 53 million units within three months in 2023. Its eggs are sourced from farms across the country and sold nationwide.
The lawsuit claims that due to the alleged deception, Eggland's Best has been able to sell more products, charge higher prices, and take away market share from competing brands. This action has allegedly led to increased sales and profits for the company at the expense of misled consumers.
The plaintiff argues that this marketing representation violates the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act.
