Officer Involved Critical Incident Investigation in Janesville, Wis.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer involved critical incident (OICI) in Janesville, Wis. that occurred on the evening of Friday, March 1, 2024.

According to the report, the Janesville Police Department responded to a 911 call concerning an armed subject in the 1200 block of N. Parker Street in the City of Janesville. Upon arrival, officers encountered the armed subject who refused to exit the residence, with two other subjects also unable to safely leave. An officer discharged their weapon, resulting in the death of the armed subject. A firearm was found at the scene.

"No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident," stated the report.

The officer involved in the incident has been put on administrative leave as per department policy. It was noted that the officer was wearing a body camera at the time of the incident.

The investigation is being led by DCI, with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol, a DCI Crime Response Specialist, and members of the DCI Digital Evidence Unit. All law enforcement involved are said to be fully cooperating with DCI during the investigation process.

DCI is currently reviewing evidence to establish the facts surrounding the incident. Upon conclusion of the investigation, investigative reports will be handed over to the Rock County District Attorney.

Inquiries from the media have been directed to the Wisconsin DOJ.
