ORLANDO, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - A widower is suing Disney after his wife died from an allergic reaction following a meal at a restaurant in Disney World.
Disney and Great Irish Pubs Florida, Inc., which operates Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant, are facing a lawsuit filed Feb. 22 in Orange County Circuit Court by Jeffrey J. Piccolo as the personal representative of the estate of Kanokporn Tangsuan.
The lawsuit alleges that the defendants served food containing allergens to Tangsuan, who was 42 years old at the time and a doctor at NYU Langone hospital in Manhattan at Raglan Road, resulting in her death. The action for damages exceeding $50,000 and is being brought under the Florida Wrongful Death Act.
The plaintiff argues that Disney and Raglan Road were responsible for the hiring and training of wait staff, menu selection, and policies regarding food allergies at Disney Springs restaurants.
He further claims that both entities publicly represented their commitment to accommodating persons with food allergies, influencing their decision to dine at Raglan Road.
The incident allegedly occurred on October 5, 2023. Tangsuan was highly allergic to dairy and nuts. She ordered a few dishes, including scallops and onion rings.
By 8:46 p.m., Tangsuan was having trouble breathing and collapsed. She was taken to a hospital but passed away before her spouse could rush there to be with her one last time.
