Business exec sues Apple after email hacked

Lawsuits

LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) - The president and CFO of a company with a government munitions contract is suing Apple after his email was hacked.

Apple Inc. and 10 unidentified individuals are facing a lawsuit filed Feb. 6 by Keyvan Samini and his lawyers at the Brower Law Group in United States District Court for the Central District of California.

The plaintiff alleges that his email account was hacked or stolen by the unknown defendants shortly after his company, Mobix Labs Inc., announced it had begun delivering filtered connector parts used in the U.S. Navy’s Tomahawk Cruise Missile.

Samini claims that Apple, which operates all email accounts with the suffix "me.com," has the technological capability to disable the account, reassign it to him, provide activity reports within the account and exercise overall control of that account.

The hackers have used his email for phishing scams, he says, but there are other dangers.

"Plaintiff does not hold any security clearances with the US Government and does not believe that there is any material, within the files of the Email Address, which would contain specifically classified material," the suit says.

"However, some of the products of Mobix are subject to restrictions under ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations which controls the export and import of defense-related articles and services on the United States Munitions List). And by having control of the Email Address, John Does have the ability to send email messages using the 'authentic' email of Plaintiff which might induce others to take actions which could result in the disclosure of information or which could result in others taking actions to compromise money, trade secrets or other valuable items."

Steven Brower and Lee Fink are his lawyers.
