Tate L. Tischner, a partner and registered patent attorney in Troutman Pepper’s Intellectual Property practice, has been appointed to office managing partner in Rochester, effective January 1, 2024. Tischner succeeds Partner Andrew P. Zappia.

“I am looking forward to taking on this important leadership role in Rochester,” Tischner said. “The Rochester Office will continue to provide the outstanding quality of service to clients and the community that lives in the heart of every professional in our office.”

Tischner’s practice focuses on providing strategy counsel on intellectual property issues for clients in the human medicine and plant and agriculture technology areas. He counsels clients on all aspects of building patent protection domestically and internationally through utility patents, plant patents, plant breeder’s rights, and plant variety protection certificates. Tischner also represents public and private companies and institutions of higher education in post-issuance proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), agreement and licensing work, noninfringement and validity opinions, and patent litigation.

Tischner is active in the local community and a member of key industry groups including the New York State Bar Association. He is a former board member and past president of the Rochester Intellectual Property Law Association, and has been recognized by several industry authorities, including being named an Upstate New York Rising Star for Intellectual Property by Law & Politics Magazine.
