Tom Reilly, a partner in Troutman Pepper’s Business Litigation Practice, has received the distinguished H. Sol Clark Award at the Georgia State Bar Access to Justice Committee’s 2022 Pro Bono Awards. The award is named for former Georgia Court of Appeals Judge H. Sol Clark of Savannah, who is known as the “father of legal aid in Georgia.” The prestigious Clark Award honors an individual lawyer who has excelled in one or more of a variety of activities that extend civil legal services to the poor.
In addition to his active litigation practice and leading the Firm’s Business Litigation Practice Group, Reilly is an active participant in and advocate for Troutman Pepper’s dedicated pro bono program. His pro bono work has benefitted a variety of clients, from helping tenants in eviction proceedings, senior citizens in need of estate planning, and asylum seekers needing assistance navigating a complicated immigration process.
Recently, Reilly led a team that achieved the extraordinary exoneration of Devonia Inman, who was sentenced to life in prison without parole for a 1998 crime he did not commit. For more than five years, Reilly and a large team of Troutman Pepper professionals fought on Inman’s behalf in habeas corpus proceedings, with the support of the Georgia Innocence Project. Inman ultimately was exonerated and freed in December 2021 after serving 23 years of a life sentence imposed after his wrongful conviction.
