Attorney General Ashley Moody has filed legal action against two additional solar companies, Vision Solar and SetUp My Solar, for deceiving consumers in Florida. The lawsuits are a result of investigations conducted by the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division, which uncovered misleading practices by these companies. Vision Solar and SetUp My Solar allegedly misled consumers about the installation processes of solar panel systems, misrepresented pricing and incentives, and even caused damage to customers' properties. Both companies are accused of violating Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act.

Attorney General Moody emphasized the importance of consumer awareness and urged Floridians to be cautious when entering into solar agreements. She stated, "Floridians, please do your research when entering into solar agreements—don't fall for high-pressure sales tactics and read all the fine print in contracts. And solar companies, beware! If you are conducting deceptive business practices, my office will take action to ensure that these practices cease and, if necessary, that you no longer operate in the Sunshine State."

Vision Solar is accused of selling solar panel systems to numerous consumers while promising certain benefits and fast project completion. However, customers reported experiencing delays, damage, and unfulfilled promises. The company allegedly misled consumers about the installation process and relevant incentives, and failed to meet permit requirements, resulting in unexpected fines or liens for customers.

SetUp My Solar, also known as 320 Solar, allegedly used high-pressure sales tactics and misrepresented potential savings, equipment quality, and tax rebates to consumers. Customers reported that the company failed to complete or properly install systems, leading to failed inspections and property damage. The defendants are also accused of bundling additional items, such as water heaters and air conditioning units, without the necessary licenses and permits.

The Florida Attorney General's Office is seeking to permanently prevent both companies from making unsubstantiated or misleading claims regarding solar panel systems. The legal actions also aim to recover refunds and provide relief to consumers who have suffered harm as a result of these deceptive practices.

In addition to these recent actions, Attorney General Moody has previously taken action against MC Solar, another deceptive solar company. MC Solar and its owners were found to have scammed numerous consumers, including seniors, persons with disabilities, and veterans.

To protect consumers, Attorney General Moody has provided several tips:

- Beware of solar companies advertising as government-affiliated entities.

- Conduct thorough research on solar companies before hiring them, including reading online reviews and checking the Better Business Bureau website.

- Take time to review documentation provided by the company, including information on the type of solar panel system being offered and any financing terms.

- Read the fine print carefully before signing a contract, as not all consumers may be eligible for rebates and incentives.

- Consult with the homeowners insurance company to understand how solar panels may impact home insurance coverage.
