TAMPA, Fla. (Legal Newsline) — The Salvation Army faces a lawsuit in Florida after a man says a chair he was interested in buying broke when he tested it.

Myron Griffin filed a complaint Sept. 6 in the Hillsborough County Circuit Court against The Salvation Army.

Griffin claims that on Jan. 19, 2023, he was at a Salvation Army store in Tampa. He alleges that while evaluating a chair to purchase, the chair collapsed beneath him and caused him to suffer injuries to his tailbone, hip, head and legs. Griffin further alleges that he continues to suffer from lower back pain which hurts his ability to walk up stairs and sit and has impaired his mobility.

He also alleges he is forced to walk with a cane due to the lack of mobility in his legs. Griffin claims the Salvation Army knew or should have known that the chair needed repaired or to be discarded and failed to warn of the hazard. Griffin alleges he also suffered disfigurement and lost earnings and incurred medical treatment expenses.

Griffin seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Jay Kovar of The Kovar Law Group in St. Petersburg.
