TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) — A man alleges that he was assaulted by Florida sheriff's deputies and denied medical care for a broken arm.

Chadwich Gable filed a complaint Aug. 13 in  Leon County Circuit Court against Walt McNeil, in his official capacity as Sheriff of Leon County, and Ryan Kessling, alleging civil rights violations.

Gable, according to his complaint, was being served with a warrant on Nov. 14, 2019. He claims that deputies engaged in pursuit that caused him to fall over a fence and break his arm. Gable further claims that despite his arm being broken and being in severe pain, Kessling and another deputy cuffed him, pulled his pants down and battered him by kicking and hitting him while he was restrained.

He claims that the dogs used in his pursuit repeatedly bit him on his buttocks and that he was dragged to a waiting ambulance. Gable alleges that the deputies asked if the other had remembered to retrieve the body camera from where he had tossed it during the assualt and battery.

He also alleges Kessling refused to allow paramedics to treat his broken arm and transported him directly to jail, from where he was then taken to the hospital for treatment. He claims once at the hospital, Kessling refused to allow him to be treated and was returned to jail without his broken arm being set.

Chadwich seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Marie Mattox of Marie A. Mattox PA in Tallahassee.
