TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline)  — A former Florida inmate alleges he suffered a crushed pelvis and was delayed in getting medical treatment.

Kyle Register filed a complaint July 20 in the Leon County Circuit Court against the Florida Department of Corrections alleging negligence.

Register, according to his complaint, was an inmate at the Lake Butler Correctional Institution. He claims that on Dec. 10, 2019, he was near a trash compactor when he was hit and run over by a large golf cart being driven by another inmate.

Register further claims the emergency brake on the cart failed and that inmates were not allowed to be operating the vehicle, according to the facility's policy. He alleges that he was then forced to walk to the cart for transport despite being in extreme pain and was told in the medical unit that nothing was wrong with him.

Register claims he was forced to wait five days to be taken to the hospital for surgery for a crushed pelvis. He also claims in his complaint, that as a result of the facility's negligence, he required a wheelchair for four months and a walker for three months.

Register seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Marie Mattox of Marie A. Mattox PA in Tallahassee.
