BOSTON (Legal Newsline) — The estate of a utility worker who suffered fatal injuries at a job site in Boston is claiming negligence.
Meladys Romero, as personal representative of the Estate of Jordy Castaneda Romero, filed a complaint July 12 in Suffolk County Superior Court against LDJ Development LLC and Atlantic Coast Utilities LLC, alleging wrongful death and other claims.
According to the plaintiff's complaint, her husband Jordy Romero was working for Atlantic Coast Utilities and performing water utility work at LDJ's job site on High Street in Boston on Feb. 24, 2021. She alleges that while her husband and a co-worker were standing at the opening of large hole that was dug to access pipes and address flooding issues, a pick-up truck backing up hit Romero and threw him into the hole.
The plaintiff further alleges that the rear wheels of the pickup truck, which was registered to LDJ, fell into the street opening. According to the complaint, Jordy Romero suffered traumatic and fatal injuries. Meladys claims the defendants' negligence for having an improperly secured job site without any fencing or guardrails or warnings to prevent falls.
The plaintiff also claims that Atlantic Coast Utilities has been previously charged with homicide after the deaths of two other workers at a job site in 2016. She alleges that Atlantic Coast provided false information to the City of Boston in order to obtain permits for the work at LDJ's High Street site.
The plaintiff seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Natalie Quinn and Michelle Newton of Jason Stone Injury Lawyers in Boston.
