BOSTON (Legal Newsline) —A former Boston police officer alleges he faced race-based discrimination.

Daniel Rose filed a complaint June 13 in Suffolk County Superior Court against the City of Boston and the Boston Police Department alleging racial discrimination, retaliation and other claims.

Rose, according to his compliant, was employed by the Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) from 2004 - 2019, and then became a Boston police officer in June of 2020. He alleges that in May of 2019, his home security camera caught a gang member breaking into vehicles and when the footage was turned over to the Boston Police Department, it failed to redact his name as a complaining witness.

That allegedly caused the gang member to threaten his life and the lives of his family. Rose, a Black man, further alleges he and his family were forced to move to a rental property for their safety that was outside the Boston city limits, even though the City required employees to live within the City of Boston.

He claims he was wrongfully terminated for violating the residency compliance due to his length of tenure with the City and that he was targeted due to his race. Rose also claims white police officers in similar situations were allowed to continue to work for the police department or got assistance in transferring to another police department outside of Boston.

Rose seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Madison Bader and Nicholas Carter of Todd & Weld LLP in Boston.
