ORLANDO, Fla. (Legal Newsline) — The manufacturer of the OneWheel electric skateboard is facing a claim from a Florida user who says the product's defect caused his injuries.
Leonard Witt filed a complaint March 20 in Orange County Circuit Court against Future Motion Inc., alleging negligence and other claims.
Witt, according to his complaint, purchased the defendant's self-balancing battery powered OneWheel electric transporter. He claims the OneWheel's marketed feature is a "pushback" that is designed as a warning to riders to avoid a dangerous situation.
He futher claims the device actually just shuts off and nosedives, which catapults the rider off the device. Witt alleges that on Nov. 24, 2022, while riding the OneWheel in Winter Park, the OneWheel suddenly and without warning shut off and caused the front of the board to slam into the ground. He claims he was thrown from the OneWheel and suffered a fractured arm.
Witt alleges the defendant's product is defectively designed and manufactured with no warning to users. He claims Future Motion failed to adequately test and inspect the OneWheel to ensure the quality of the product before placing it in the stream of commerece.
Witt seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Branden Weber of Morgan & Morgan in Orlando.
