LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) — A consumer class action lawsuit alleges Master Lock's lock boxes have security failures.
Anthony Pan filed a complaint Dec. 9 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California against Master Lock Company LLC alleging violation of the California's Consumers Legal Remedies Act and False Advertising Law and other claims.
Pan alleges in his class action that Master Lock falsely claims its locks are safe and secure for outdoor storage of keys and other items. Specifically, Pan claims Master Lock's push-button combination lock boxes have "security vulnerability" and allow any person to decode and gain access to the box even without tools.
He alleges the box, which he purchased through Amazon in August of 2021, can be opened by putting "continuous pressure" on the open switch and testing each button to identify the combination. Pan further alleges that the easy access to the lock boxes is "known or easily ascertained by burglars" and they are unfit for use.
He claims Master Lock was aware of the lock boxes' defect and chose to conceal the vulnerability of the boxes and that consumers would pay considerably less for the product if they knew of the safety issue. Pan alleges Master Lock's false representation regarding the security of its lock boxes caused consumers harm and violated California consumer laws.
Pan and the class seek monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Benjamin Gubernick of Gubernick Law PLLC in Phoenix and David Lake of The Law Offices of David N. Lake in Encino, California.
