ABI Names Dechert’s LATAM Restructuring Matter “International Matter of the Year”

Dechert LLP’s LATAM Airlines financial restructuring matter was named the “International Matter of the Year” by the American Bankruptcy Institute. It is the first time ABI has announced such an honor.

Throughout the matter, the Dechert team played a central role in LATAM’s Chapter 11 proceedings, representing the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors. The team achieved a major victory for the creditors when the bankruptcy court refused to approve an insider financing deal and instead secured a revised DIP financing plan which saved the airline – and its creditors – almost half a billion dollars.

Last year, this Dechert matter was also named “Loans Deal of the Year” by the International Financial Law Review and “Banking & Finance Deal of the Year” by the Latin Lawyer.

Dechert’s financial restructuring practice is recognized globally for handling high-profile cross-border restructuring and insolvency matters, innovative deal structuring and achieving court victories across jurisdictions. To read more about the firm’s financial restructuring practice, click here.

The Dechert team working on this case was led by partner and co-chair of the firm’s financial restructuring practice, Allan Brilliant and included partners Craig Druehl, Eric Brunstad and David Herman, along with associate Eric Hilmo.
